Northbridge Police in Massachusetts, United States, have been receiving a regular and bizarre stream of calls from Northbridge, Western Australia.
It is believed that people have been using their smartphones to search for ‘Northbridge Police’ and have mistakenly clicked ‘call’ on the Massachusetts number. Northbridge Police in Massachusetts began receiving these calls in early March, with one dispatcher noting that he has taken at least twenty calls from Western Australia in the past five-and-a-half weeks.
Often responding to the Massachusetts dispatchers with bewilderment and embarrassment the Perth callers have all been promptly redirected back to Australia. However, the Northbridge Police (the Australian one) have reminded callers that if anyone has an emergency to dial 000 or 131444.
