Who is Flowermouth?
Flowermouth are a bunch of messes from Belmont, WA. City of Opportunity.
/
How long have you guys been around?
We’ve been gigging for a bit over 2 years now.
/
How did the band form?
We all either went to school together or had played in other bands together before – we grew up watching and playing in hardcore bands, and Flowermouth came about when we decided to muck around with some other styles of music we liked. We started it in Cam’s shed and jammed every weekend for about a year before our first show, in which time we wrote the first EP Nostalgia.
/
What influences your sound? What influences you lyrically?
Our sound is a collection of our musical influences in the same way I guess our lyrics are a collection of our own individual life events. Sorry If that came out Philosophical (laughs).
 /
Tell us about your new release.
We can’t say too much right now, but its finally finished and we’re working through the artwork and everything else at the moment. It’s a 4 track EP, it should be out in June/July.
 /
What was the recording process like for the new release?
There’s a few things we could say about that. We recorded the entire thing ourselves. Cam lives and breathes the technical side of music as much as writing, it’s a killer combo to have and the reality is we’re all poor students, it would have been real difficult to do the EP without him. It’s really cool to listen back to the final product and know that we pulled those sounds in the same shed we started the band in. It took a long ass time, though we had always planned to take it slow and make it sound exactly how we wanted it to. You don’t get that chance when you’re on borrowed time in the studio, and I think it’s a far better EP because of that.
/
Where did the idea for the AMPS shirts come from?
Long story short, we are local residents at the Big House. Every weekend we come for the gig and stay for the soosies, it’s almost an ironic ploy at how pathetic our lives are, but mostly its just for the boys.
/
Favourite local bands right now?
Some of my favourites are Fait, Puck, Bounty Hunter and The Others. They’re all completely different genre wise, but share a common factor in fucking killing it at what they do. Check them all out!
/
Releases you’re looking forward to in 2015?
This year has been ridiculous for new albums so far, I don’t know how much more I could expect really. That said, Basement just made a studio update and I can’t wait to hear the album they’ve written.
/
What can we expect from Flowermouth in 2015?
You can expect us to play a lot of gigs, put out a few songs, sink a lot of froff, and maybe, just maybe write an album.
