It was a still autumn evening and a chill was taking over the air. As we searched for something to warm us, big jumpers, scarves and beanies came to mind. But these warming thoughts were just the beginning of what goodness was to come. On Wednesday evening I discovered something that might just be the most awesome winter warmer of the season. This is a sure way to anyones heart. Baked camembert and warm spiced gin. Ahh, yes please!

Frisk Small Bar, located in the heart of Northbridge, is offering baked camembert and warm spiced gin as a delicious combo on Wednesday evenings. The first week just passed, but don’t fret because there are five more to come. From 5pm each Wednesday for $20 you get a serving of toasted bread, an entire wheel of camembert cheese and a warm gin. Sit indoors, or out, this is sure to warm your evening. Are you imagining how amazing this is yet? Venture to the bar and ask for the combo and out comes a neatly wrapped wheel of cheese. Baked. Delicious. Oh so warm! As you unwrap the foil, the delicious aromas of winter fill the cold air. As you dip that toasted bread into the warm cheese, the rind splits and the creamy melted goodness just oozes out. It drips while tring to cling to the bread as you delve into into this heavenly treat. Servings are generous, there is definitely enough here for two. But I wouldn’t blame you for getting one to yourself. It’s that good…

And the gin!? I enjoy a good spiced gin at the best of times. Distilled with nutmeg and cinnamon, Darnley’s gin is served with apple and orange juice, a dash of warm water and of course a fresh wedge of orange and a cinnamon quill. It was a nice accompaniment to the cheese, but there is no doubt that the food is the star in this show.

Frisk Bar does get pretty busy during the evenings and of course, these Baked Cheese and Gin evenings will be no exception. Last Wednesday I managed to grab the last two seats in the place at 5.30pm so if you are keen to make an evening out of this, earlier is probably better. The bar does not take reservations, however they ask for you to rsvp through their Facebook page to ensure there is enough cheese to go around! They would hate for you to miss out! Last cheese evening will be July 1st.

Frisk Bar is located at 103 Francis Street, Northbridge.
