This Sunday 5th July at 1pm in Northbridge, thousands of Perth locals are predicted to join a rally for an end to the marriage discrimination in Australia, following the American legislative change on June 26th.

In Russell Square, on the corner of Shenton and James Street, Australian Marriage Equality and GetUp!, an organisation campaigning for a progressive Australia in a number of different fields, will be working together to show support for the Australian gay marriage vote.

The Facebook event suggests that over 16,000 will be attending the event, and is being supported by a number of different organisations, including Equal Love WA, the National Tertiary Education Union, Australian Services Union and the Socialist Alliance Perth.

All are encouraged to wear brightly coloured clothes, bring signs, and generally “get around” the spirit of things. It is set to be a great afternoon rally, with speakers including representatives from both the Labour and Green parties, Reverend Father Peter Emmanuel from the Anglcan Church, and Joey Cookman-McAuley from Playgroup with Pride WA; an organisation providing playgroups for same sex families, offering friendly support for the LGBTIQ community.

The march is following a serious of rallies for marriage equality that have been taking place across Australia, to fight against Abbott’s current resistance towards the legalisation of gay marriage.
