The Brow have received their fair share of acclimation over the years, and its clearly well deserved. The six piece Perth outfit consistently put out well crafted beats with catchy horn riffs, and rhythmic poetic vocals. They’ve played almost every festival on offer in Australia and won numerous awards, and have just dropped a brand new double single.
This latest release, Monsters/Thats Life, is another win for Perth hip hop. One listen will tangle you in its web of groove monster beats and lyrical wordplay. Monsters is a spacey track incorporating electronic beats and a catchy vocal hook to grab your attention before cranking up into mind bending lyrics. The Brow’s experience is evident in this track, combining countless instrumental layers and narrative storytelling to create a uplifting vibe.
That’s Life interweaves an old school jazz feel with record scratches and well crafted rhyme schemes, reminiscent of other aussie hip hop stars such as Mantra, DRAPHT and the like. The track tumbles forward with real momentum pushed by the horns and the funk style bassline. This groove is accentuated with syncopated rap rhythms tying together the elements and cementing a great track.
This really is a killer release, to catch the live double single launch head to Amps on August 7 where The Brow will be supported by Coin Banks and Rokwell & Groom.
