Incredibly, for the second year running, Perth has been recognised as the home of Australia’s best small bar at the Australian Bartender Magazine’s Bar Awards.
It was Northbridge’s place-where-the-cool-kids-go Mechanic’s Institute that took out this year’s title, joining last year’s victor, the American-styled Varnish on King, as another Perth winner of this prestigious prize.
Opened in August 2012, Mechanic’s Institute looks out across Northbridge’s rooftops as it hides away quietly in a William Street alleyway (besides Joe’s Juice Joint). The bar’s sneaky location and retro arcade-machines give the place a sophisticated and sexy vibe, matching nicely with it’s classical but cool interior and ever-charming staff.
The bar provides Flipside burgers and cocktails, including its “Epic Bloody Mary” and the burger I will never turn down, his holiest, “The Pear And Parmesan”. They probably didn’t take out the top prize on this dish alone, but honestly, they deserved to. Give this burger a knighthood.
