RTRFM Winter Music Festival Quickies – Craig McElhinney

Words By: Laurent Shervington

Who are you what music do you make?

Craig McElhinney from Perth. Music Concrete, Easy/Difficult Listening, Head music… yada yada yada.

Do you think there is a dichotomy between Fremantle and Perth in terms of music scenes?

To be honest, I would struggle to give you a well informed answer to that question. Maybe in the past I would be able to comment on it but I feel like I’m in a place now with my music that is much more private. Considering how much distance I’ve been keeping from events, I don’t think I could tell you much about what’s happening in the Perth & Fremantle music scenes right now.

What do you think of when you hear the word ‘Winter’? Any tips for staying warm?

Winter in Australia is magic because it’s a massive relief from the punishment of summer and manages to look stunning even on its greyest days.

Any other bands on the lineup you’re looking forward to seeing?

Alex Campbell (Consulate) is a good friend of mine. If we’re not hoisting up sips then I’m usually destroying him at Fifa. In between those moments there have been some of the best conversations about music and film I’ve had. Dude has a killer handshake too.

What can we expect from your set?

Generally my sounds skate around zones of easy & difficult listening collages. Hallucinatory visions of joy and despair loaded up into the psychedelic cannon and aimed straight at your face.

Any final words?

Don’t drink and drive.
